It is very important that you read the University Hall Information Booklet and understand the terms and conditions of living in the Hall, before accepting your offer of accommodation.

The University Hall Residence Agreement is a fixed-term contract, which means you are liable for all accommodation fees from start date to finish date, even if you are away on holiday or study leave.
You can pay accommodation fees to the University Hall office and we accept EFTPOS or credit card.
If you have a New Zealand bank account, you can also pay accommodation fees via Internet Banking or Automatic payments. Before making any payment by this means you need to contact the Hall Office to obtain your personal identification reference codes. If payment is made without these codes it may be lost in the general account and consequently not credited to your account.
See Payment of Accommodation Costs for more detailed information.
How do I collect my key?
You can obtain your key/s from your Residential Assistant, who will require you to sign for them.
It is recommended that you contact them before you arrive to arrange a meeting time. You will receive contact details in your Room Placement Letter.
If you lock yourself out, contact your Residential Assistant or the office for assistance.
At the end of your residence period, you must return your key to your Residential Assistant and sign a key register, otherwise you may lose your deposit.
You can obtain your key/s from your Residential Assistant in a Welcome Pack on your arrival; they will require you to sign for them.
If you are arriving independently, the Hall will arrange for your RA or another staff member to meet you with your Welcome Pack on arrival.
If you lock yourself out, contact your Residential Assistant or the office for assistance. There is a charge for lost keys.
At the end of your residence period, you must return your key to your Residential Assistant to complete your departure process and be able to have your deposit returned to you.
Can I move in early?
Moving into the hall before the start of your residence period is possible in some instances, however this depends on occupancy levels and availability of places before the start of your contract period. Please contact us early to check room availability.
Can I move out early?
Your residence agreement is a fixed term contract, which means you agree to stay in the hall for a set period of time and pay all accommodation fees for that period.
If you decide to move out early for whatever reason, you are responsible for paying accommodation fees until such time as a replacement is found. If a replacement is not found then you remain liable for the accommodation fees for the entire contract.
Summer Residents
If you decide to move out early for whatever reason, you must give two weeks' written notice that you intend to leave. If you do not give us written notice, you must pay two weeks accommodation fees in lieu of written notice.
Alternatively, you can find somebody to take your place and continue your summer agreement. If you cannot find a replacement then you remain liable for the accommodation fees for the entire contract.
How do I get my deposit back?
Deposits are returned once you have completed a Departure Form and carried out the following:
-
All accommodation fees & debts are paid in full
-
Key returned
-
Room & flat left clean and in good order
-
You have given us a forwarding address
For prompt return of your deposit, please ensure final payments of accommodation fees are paid to avoid delays. It normally takes about 2-3 weeks for the return of your deposit.
If I have already lived at university hall, can I re-apply for another year?
Yes, but University Hall cannot guarantee that you will be accepted for a further period of residence.
Who is responsible for cleaning our flat?
Residents are responsible for cleaning their own flats or houses. This includes bedrooms and common areas. Kiwi Mates and Residential Assistants can help your flat to set up a cleaning roster to make this easier.
Our largest house, 91 Kelburn Parade, will be provided with cleaning services in common areas.
University Hall will ensure that houses and flats are cleaned before you move in, and will provide a starter pack of cleaning products. After this residents are responsible for supplying these, as well as replacement vacuum bags and mop heads. Additional vacuum bags can be purchased from the office.
What about rubbish?
As University Hall properties are individual houses, the members of the flat are responsible for disposal of rubbish, which is collected on a weekly basis by the Wellington City Council.
There are specific guidelines to follow with putting out your rubbish and heavy council penalties if these guidelines are not followed.
Rubbish should be put out in approved yellow Wellington City Council bags, which can be purchased from any Wellington supermarket or local store or the hall office. The collection will not collect black bags, boxed rubbish or appliances / furniture, etc.
For further information about rubbish and recycling, read the University Hall Information Booklet
Who looks after the gardens?
University Hall staff are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of gardens, lawns and pathways.
Residents are responsible for emptying all mail from letter boxes and keeping the surrounding grounds free of rubbish and litter.
What happens if something breaks in our flat?
If something breaks or stops working in your flat, contact the University Hall Office as soon as possible and we will make sure it gets fixed or replaced. If it is an urgent matter, e.g. there is no power or water in your flat, we will make sure it is a priority. By letting us know about a problem, you have given us permission to enter your flat.
If you break or damage any of the chattels in your flat, you may be liable to reimburse us for the cost of replacing the item; this will be charged against your account.
What internet and telephone services are provided?

Can I borrow kitchen equipment?
Te Kotahinga and Wai-te-ata provide fully equipped kitchens, so you don't need to supply kitchenware.

Are we allowed parties?
University Hall actively discourages parties as they can cause serious problems such as damage to the property and noise.

Refer to Party Policy and Party Contract for more information.
