Kapiti Island: March 2012

Now a nature reserve and one of New Zealand's most important sites for bird recovery, Kapiti Island was once Te Rauparaha's stronghold, and a key strategic location for Maori military activity up until the 1830s. This course provides an insight into the island's human history as well as its role in the conservation of precious native plants and birds and the opportunity to see recovering native forest inhabited with birds that are rare or non-existent on mainland New Zealand.
